You’re officially invited to step inside the new MJS Jewellery studio!
After nine years of designing and crafting jewellery at 27 James St, MJS Jewellery has just relocated to 19 James St (located in the leafy laneway near Gerard’s Bistro).
The new space is impressive in size and design and, visibly celebrates the craftsmanship of master jeweller and gemmologist Matthew Staff – floor to ceiling glass windows surround the studio, allowing passers to see Staff in action.
Fundamental to the studio is Staff’s wooden jeweller’s block. Salvaged from an old gum tree, the block is an integral part of his craft and used to create pieces in-store. Continuing the natural theming, wooden displays house Staff’s magical collections throughout the gallery-like space – a natural feature that Staff draws inspiration from for many of this creations.
A little-known fact to some is also that Staff specialises in handcrafting platinum pieces – a fine metal more precious and rare than gold. Such creations can take a month, others days to produce, depending of course on the complexity of the design, however, a fact known to all is that the final result will be an elegant, custom created piece with its own unique story.
Open Monday to Saturday, visit the new studio space and enjoy Staff’s one-of-a-kind artisan designs, but be warned… Leaving empty handed is somewhat impossible as his creations are far too precious to resist.
