MCM in the James St House

Some things are seriously worth the wait – like a good holiday, a delicious home-cooked meal and in our case, the opening of MCM House! Located at 7 Wandoo St, their brand-new store in our great district is a Queensland first.

According to MCM House Founder, Charles Hinkfuss (pictured below) James St has been in his sights for over 4 years.

“Brisbane has been on the radar for some time, we actually nearly took a space during the early stages of The Callie development. We decided we wanted to develop the range to a point that was ready for the Brisbane market, which we are confident it is now. We love the area – we love the vibe – it sits with the energy of our brand perfectly.”

The Sydney born furniture brand was created to fill a gap in the market. With roots in buying and selling antique furniture, Charles identified a desire for timeless designs to compliment antique furnishings.

Charles’ said,”customers were always asking for specific things to pair back with their antique finds, so it was a natural progression to start a collection that could easily pair back timelessly with many different eras and styles. That collection became the brand we know now.”

MCM House furnishings can not only be found in impeccably styled homes, but leading businesses too. Their portfolio of work extends to custom fabrications and collaborative work with artists such as Daimon Downey (this may or may not be a hint of some exciting James St Up Late news), brands like Venroy and institutions like Raes on Wategos.

“Amazing collaborations and partnerships with like-minded brands give MCM House a unique creative energy. We’re very much more than just a furniture brand, we have a vibe and that comes from working with other cool brands and people that align with us,” stated Charles.

To couch what’s cool in 2023 Charles shared that “I think we’re entering a year of essentials, investing in lasting objects that aren’t too decorative. I’m also sensing a resurgence of darker timber entering the pallet again this year.”
