Market Day Pivots to Picnics at Home

Hello Epicurean Enthusiasts, in line with the Queensland Government’s recent announcement for a three-day lockdown starting Saturday 31 July at 4PM, Market Day on Sunday 1 August has been put on hold. Many of our retailers however are busy transitioning to ensure that all their wonderful fresh produce and meals are still available in the form of take-away!

With two of our off-trail events already complete, the trail was off to a flying and delicious start, but now in light of, and in keeping with the recent announcements, the last two events, Market Day – our street-wide urban picnic designed to feature the work of our resident chefs and kitchen teams, and the Harveys’ Louis Roederer Lunch will be postponed.

Many of our resident chefs and kitchen teams, all who were busy dicing, slicing and prepping their dishes, when the recent announcement came through, are rallying, and pivoting to prepare special meals to be enjoyed at home – and we are rallying our appetite to help.

Below you’ll find what you can order from our small business owners to help them ensure that none of their efforts or food goes to waste. So scroll through, place your orders, pick it up and take it back home to enjoy it with those you love and live with. Waste not, want not.

We’ll be updating this web story as we hear more from our traders, so please keep hitting that refresh button and share this link with those you were going to attend Market Day with.

GELATO MESSINA

To say we were excited about cool concoctions Gelato Messina dreamt up for Market Day would be a complete and utter understatement. Not all however is lost as you can enjoy a take-home tub or two of mood-boosting Messina takeaway from their James St store.

LOBBY BAR

On Sunday 1 August from 10AM until 6PM you’ll find the Lobby Bar team serving the taco menu they had planned for Market Day. Barramundi fish tacos with pico de gallo, avocado and chipotle sour cream or crispy cauliflower ones anyone? We’ll take a few serves.

BIÀNCA

Ciao! Pull up in the Ada Lane ‘drive through’ for Italian eats by Ben Williamson and his team. On the menu? Pane, antipasti (and lots of it), pasta, dolce. Call the restaurant to place your order, pay for it over the phone and one of their team members will bring it out to your car.

MOSCONI

When the call came through Mark and the Mosconi team were busy prepping the porchetta for the 500+ rolls they were going to serve on Market Day. The good news is you can still get them by ordering at the venue or calling the restaurant and perhaps adding a few drinks from Fonzie Abbott to go.

CANTINHO

Trust the team at Cantinho to create a delicious takeaway experience. From Monday 2 August until Tuesday 3 August swing by the cafe for Portuguese custard tarts, baklava, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee to go. Hello, morning tea.

JOCELYN’S PROVISIONS

In their own signature style, Jocelyn’s Provisions team had dreamt up a slew of pies, pizzas and other doughy delights for Market Day. You’ll find what they had planned and prepped, now in-store both at James Street and Albion. Because no lockdown is complete without a sweet treat or baked item and this one is no different. Go hard on your order, and then go hunker down at home.

GERARD’S BISTRO

Bring out the nice tablecloth, light a few candles and transform your dining room into Gerard’s Bistro at home. Savour a different three-course feast on Saturday 1  and Sunday 2 August. Try one or them both – available to order here.

SAME SAME

In keeping with lockdowns gone before, the team at sAme sAme will be manning the phones for all your takeaway needs. Alongside the on-point curries and wok tossed wonders, you’ll find the bao burger buns, originally slated for Market Day. Try one, or hedge your bets with one each of salt and pepper tofu or chicken. Both have a wicked chilli sauce. Talk about thai-riffic

THE GREEN

Enjoy first taste of The Green before the restaurant opens with one of their delectable meal kits. Treat your family with 12-hour slow-roasted spiced lamb shoulder, beetroot hommus and pita, sumac yoghurt, pickled vegetables and baklava ice cream sandwiches. Available for collection Sunday 1 August 11AM – 2PM – call 0412 088 598 to order.

FRESHFISHCO + FRESHSUSHICO

For the seafood saveurs who were craving the freshest catch at the FreshFishCo and FreshSushiCo stall, don’t fret. You can still enjoy their full menu takeaway.

CRU CELLAR

For the lockdown tipple, CRU Cellar has your back. Shop online, place an order via the phone or visit the cellar doors on James St.

JAMES ST BAKERY

James St Bakery and their delectable sourdough pizza’s, pie’s, sausage rolls, sandwiches and quiches are available at the James St Markets for your lockdown consumption.
