bassike, is a quintessentially Australian label – from the relaxed staples, everyday tees to the earthy colour palettes. However, for those not yet part of the brands cult following, (trust us, you soon will be!) there is a lot more than meets the eye…
bassike are advocates for Australian made products, with 90% of their garments made right here. This considered approach to sustainable fashion and design has been a core part of their philosophy since day one and transcends into all aspects of the business from their fabrics, day-to-day operations and boutiques.
Let’s get back to basics….
Co-founders Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan create all products with sincere intention and with longevity in mind. bassike’s go-to tee’s are made from oh so soft organic cottons which are developed by in-house in Melbourne. They have spent year’s perfecting the fabric and trust us, you can tell.
On top of this, their linen, cashmere, denim, leather and nylon are all sourced from the highest quality providers and certified for their low impact on the environment,
Day-to-day operations –
Always seeking the “greener way” bassike recently introduced biodegradable plastic garment bags made from cassava starch which are dissolvable in water. bassike have also removed plastic completely in their inter-store deliveries and switched to reusable cloth garment bags from fabric off cuts.
bassike’s philosophy on sustainability is incorporated through every aspect of their boutiques. If you’ve browsed through the James Street store located on ground level of The Calile Hotel you may have noticed their energy efficient led lighting, natural timber fit-out and recycled coat hangers made from a mixture of regrind and recycled content.
