Think local, support local...

Keeping it local this Christmas

We are lucky on James Street, spoilt in fact, with our talented designers, providores and creative minds, who create and dream up unique things – some of which you cannot find anywhere else. Its uniqueness and the one-of-a-kind allure that makes buying local so special. Plus, you can often meet the maker in-store and receive personal purchase advise on-the-spot.

This Christmas, when gift-giving or perhaps creating your wish list, think local. Support the creative minds who set out on their own path and in return, gift (or receive) something extra thoughtful.

If this sounds right down your alley, we have listed five of our favourite local shops…

Gail Sorronda

Owner and designer of her eponymous label, Gail Sorronda was rightly hailed as one to watch by Karl Lagerfield. Calling James St home, her boutique is a romantic escape to all things Gail Sorronda. From her black and white aesthetic, feminine silhouettes and romanticism, the shop is a fantasy. When planning a Christmas gift for the lover of fashion in your life or perhaps the outfit for a Christmas Party, a trip to Gail Sorronda is in order.

The Nut Market:

Christmas time is all about the food, and providores of all things nuts, savoury and sweet treats, The Nut Market is your what to bring when you’re told not to bring a thing. With gifts such as chocolate almonds, dried mango slices and house-made nut butter, that keep many locals coming back for more. Owner Clinton is often is in-store and will happily help with finding the perfect treat for any occasion.

Andronis Jewellery

After something bespoke? Then make your way to Andronis Jewellery. The back of the store plays home to a workshop where the Andronis team, and father and daughter duo Angelo and Angelique Andronis carry out their meticulous work. For Christmas, the team are on-hand to assist with on-the-spot customisation and provide assistance with designing and crafting unique personalised products.

The product offering reflects The Calile’s aesthetic with many treats sourced directly from the local area. Think local honey, beauty products, hotel merchandise, cards games to linen pyjamas.

The James St Bakery has an impressive array of baked good from baguettes, pastries, sourdough, even flourless cakes, which are a much-loved addition to any holiday event.
