There’s only one weekend in the year that sees the culinary community of James St come together to put on an extravaganza of food, wine, and tasty times. We’re of course talking about James St Food + Wine Trail (JSFWT) and this year the weekend in question was Saturday 27 + Sunday 28 July.
The foodie festivities kicked off on Saturday 27 July with Trail Day. Dedicated to showcasing the weekend’s exclusive set menus, tasting events, and aperitivo afternoons, Trail Day provided the perfect opportunity to amuse the bouche from the comfort of some of the districts most iconic venues. From champagne lunches and Middle Eastern feasts to wine tastings and sundowner sips, Trail Day served up a sumptuous spread for every type of foodie fiend.
Appetites successfully aroused, the weekend then culminated in Market Day. In what can only be described as one of those “see it to believe it” kind of days, Market Day saw over 31,000 attendees sip, savour, move and groove their way through James Street. Providores from the district’s cafes, bars and restaurants were unleashed to transform the street from roadway to gourmet marketplace by way of 39 pop-up fantastical food and delectable drink stalls dishing out their signature fare with a market twist. Soundtracking the whole day’s epicurean adventures was live music from artists and bands and funky fresh beats from DJs across five different stages. What more is there to say? We dined, we danced, we delighted in each other’s company – all under the warmth of the Brisbane sun. It was pure bliss.
Hit play on the video below and peruse the photo album of highlights to re-live the splendour or see what you missed out on – just make sure you’re viewing on a full stomach because these tantalising treats are sure to awaken your appetite all over again.
