James St Food + Wine Trail 2022

After a two-year hiatus, James St Food + Wine Trail returns across four days – culminating with the community’s much-loved street-takeover Market Day on Sunday 31 July.

JSFWT Market Day 2022 will welcome a slew of newcomers with Gemelli joining the quality line up alongside, sAme sAme, ESSA, Biánca, SK Steak & Oyster to name a few, resulting in the biggest event since inception nine-years ago. Nineteen pop-up food stalls and thirteen bars hosted by resident James St venues will serve restaurant quality fare with flair and drinks on Sunday 31 July from 10am to 6pm.

Gelato Messina will offer two limited-edition desserts CHOK-IT-OUT-NOW and The BOUNTY HUNTER, while ESSA takes things up a notch with caviar + frozen vodka and fried chicken + truffle rolls. Also rolling into Market Day is Mosconi, with their seriously popular porchetta rolls, while the Greek Titans at Hellenika cure the European summer ‘fomo’ with chargrilled octopus, lamb ribs and Greek salad, of course.

A city-wide lockdown last year just 24-hours prior to Market Day 2021, saw the celebration transform into an ‘At Home’ event. The community showed extraordinary support as James St’s finest restaurants swiftly shifted to takeaway menus. After what can be considered ‘a two-year hiatus’ there is a rumbling hunger for the gourmet culinary event to return in full this July.

James St will close to traffic on Sunday 31 July from McLachlan to Arthur St’s to make way for five live music stages and Brisbane’s largest dining room with tables taking over the street, while craft workshops for adults and dedicated kids activities round out the entertainment offering.

If a restaurant reservation is more your style, all venues will be open as per usual on Market Day for those seeking to soak-up the atmosphere in the comfort of a favourite locale. Some of James St’s residents will also offer one-off menu pairings, multi-course feasts and tastings in the lead up to Market Day with Mosconi, Gerard’s Bar, The Green, ESSA, Harveys Bar + Bistro and Tippler’s Tap each offering a variety of Trail Day experiences leading into the Market Day finale.

On Thursday 28 July Mosconi will break the ice of JSFWT with an elegant Barolo + Game Dinner comprising six- courses by Head Chef Catherine Anders and paired with exceptional Italian wine. Stalwarts Gerard’s Bar will start the party with pizza and beats at their Lebanese Pizza Party, because no one does a disco or manouche (pizza) quite like Gerard’s.

Friday 29 July will welcome an evening in the oasis that is The Green, while sister venue ESSA hosts a four-course champagne lunch curated by Head Chef and Co-Owner Phil Marchant on Saturday 30 July. Iconic Harveys in the heart of the action, will serve something close to their heart on the final day of the trail with a Taittinger champagne paired four-course lunch designed by the one and only PJ McMillian on Sunday 31 July.

This four-day feast would not be possible without the talented chefs and dedicated restaurateurs who call James St home. The dedication, forward-thinking and community consciousness of the James St food family continues to shape the district as one of the nation’s leading food destinations and JSFWT is a celebration of their gastronomic dedication and our place.
