Jocelyn's, we missed you

Baking for good, baking for JSFWT

Jocelyn’s Provisions is back and they’ve done it in one very delicious and delightfully doughy way. Like the phoenix from the flames, this is the ultimate comeback.

It’s about celebrating classics but also unveiling previously untasted items – bound to become classics in their own right over time. There have also been updated spins on past offerings that long term fans will remember and possibly fall for, all over again.

Recipes from the early days have been revisited, retested, and elevated by the team, all while their kitchen and HQ underwent repair. It’s pure proof (in the pudding) that there’s been no rest for the Jocelyn’s chefs and bakers – as they’ve turned a bad hand into a repertoire revival and revision – proving that good things come to those who wait.

Jocelyn’s Provisions purists and pastry fiends are relishing the return of cult classics – sour cream chocolate cake, Viennoiserie, raspberry studded roulade, caramel slice and melting moments – where have you been?

When it comes to what’s new and sweet, options abound. Think layered tiramisu and banoffee layer cakes, cannolis and delights like pillowy donuts piped thick with homemade custards. While on the savoury side, expect malleable pizza bases topped with cured meats, cheeses and more. They’ll be dropping every Saturday and on Market Day of James St Food + Wine Trail (JSFWT) – two occasions perfectly primed for pizza.

Plan your calendar around the daily delights, as each day features new flavours and alternatives sitting smugly alongside the MVPs of Jocelyn’s Provisions. The MVPs? Gourmet pies, sausage rolls, daily loaves of various compositions and take-home meals for the midweek. Restaurant quality meals that have long been prized by Brisbane’s hungry but time-poor citizens.

The early hours see the return of the breakfast burger (the real OG’s will remember) from 7AM. Perfect for those heading to the office, or those seeking a little restoration post night-cap.

At lunchtime, celebrated sandwich combinations are back, but they are now joined by additional flavours, crammed thick with pulled meats, relishes and more. Soups are now also on the playlist – best accompanied with a toasted sandwich, exuding three types of cheese. Forget croutons, the Americans really got it right, with trusty toasty + soup = dunk heaven.

On the provisions front, zesty curds, relishes, jams and other pantry staples, beloved by home cooks and avid entertainers, return. How avid? Well, the fruits for the Christmas season are already soaking. The fruitcake (and JSFWT!) countdown is on.
