"it then becomes a family run business"

2 minutes with designers Natasha and Alex Chipman of Natasha Schweitzer

Designed and hand-crafted in Australia, Natasha and Alex Chipman started Natasha Schweitzer under the influence of their mother Marion – one of Australia’s first female jewellers.

Possessing a rare, first-hand experience in the craftsmanship process, their success is global, featuring in French Vogue.

We were lucky enough to chat with founders and designers Natasha and Alex Chipman, about their most treasured pieces of jewellery, career highlight and their legacy.

You’ve been a James Street local for quite sometime, when did you open on James Street and why here?

We opened our flagship boutique on James Street in August 2016 (so coming up to 3 years now). Having both previously worked on James Street, we always wanted to open our first boutique here because we love the relaxed luxe vibe the whole area evokes.

Your new Bridal Collection is elegant and timeless, Natasha what pieces will you be wearing on your big day?

It’s a secret for now!

Your mother, Marion Schweitzer is a jeweller, is there a piece of advice you’ve really treasured and followed from your mum throughout your careers?

Always be a kind person, and treat your staff like your family – it then becomes a family run business.

If you could only wear one piece of jewellery for the rest of your life what would it be?

Besides my engagement ring, for myself and Alex it would be our Letter Necklaces. We never take them off

What has been a significant moment throughout your careers?

For us recently it would be opening our flagship boutique, and also being stocked worldwide on Net-A-Porter.

Out of your own personal jewellery collections are there any pieces that provide you with sentimental value?

Alex has a ring that was originally made for our Oma (grandmother) in the 1970’s by our mother, and for myself it would be my engagement ring.

What is your favourite part about marie claire Up Late?

We love the overall vibe and buzz the event creates, and how the public continues to embrace and celebrate it every year. We also love catching up with the Marie Claire team too!

You can meet Natasha and Alex in their store during marie claire Up Late.
