James St has staked a claim as Brisbane’s, and Australia’s, foremost retail and lifestyle precinct. Having emerged organically from its inner-city industrial roots, the street and surrounding area has evolved into a high energy urban retail pocket.
The precinct features a curated mix of over 110 speciality stores, including an impressive range of design showrooms and fashion boutiques, award-winning restaurants and cafes, in addition to art galleries, design havens and grooming emporiums. Playing home to some of Australia’s favourite designers, the precinct attracts those seeking a design-forward retail experience in a leafy outdoor urban setting.
James St combines cultural awareness and trade with a relaxed Queensland spirit. With a history of staging unique and creative events that promote cultural and community discourse, the James Street Initiative invites the public to escape the perpetual sameness of shopping malls and re-think of retail and public spaces as places for community, creatives and business to come together.
The James Street Initiative Pty Ltd (JSI) is a privately funded, non-profit business that was formed in June 2010 by a group of property stakeholders who saw potential in transforming a light-industrial area into an urban retail hub. JSI was established to promote and strengthen the James St brand, and to lift the profile and trade of the retailers residing within the stakeholder properties.
Operating as the communications, event and public relations office for the properties and retailers that reside within the stakeholder premises, JSI has implemented a range of tactics to achieve inherent goals and objectives for the properties within the stakeholder remit.
